Frequently Asked Questions

How do you conduct your shoots?

My sessions are always relaxed, easy and enjoyable. You'll never feel awkward or under scrutiny. My newborn sessions are baby-led, and I work around

My photographic approach incorporates elements of lifestyle, documentary and naturally-posed portraiture. I nearly always rely on natural light, and strive to keep my style as raw, timeless and authentic as possible.

As an on-location photographer, I conduct shoots within your home or outside. Outdoor shoots are always scheduled in the hour around either sunrise or sunset. Indoor home sessions are flexible based on when your home gets the best light.

What can we expect during a session?

Once we meet at our agreed location,  I'll give you a brief overview of how the session will run, and provide you with any items you're using from the Client Wardrobe.

We often start with some candid shots, followed by some relaxed portraits

If required, I’ll offer gentle guidance on movement and positioning, so don’t worry if you’re not a ‘natural’ in front of the camera.

Do you edit your photos & what can we expect in the gallery?

To ensure my photos are of the highest quality, I hand-edit each of my images using professional techniques to enhance the final photo whilst keeping it looking natural and timeless. I can arrange skin and body retouching on request.

Within 10 days after your shoot, I'll email you a link to your own private gallery containing the carefully selected and beautifully edited images in both colour and black+white.

For mini Sessions you can expect up to 50 images, and for full Sessions, up to 150 photos. For mini Sessions, you will have the option to select your favourite 10 for processing in high-res, or if you love them all, you can purchase the whole gallery.

What if it rains, there's a lockdown or we need to reschedule due to illness?

If we're shooting outside, our dates are dependent on weather so I always keep a few sessions available for weather back-ups. Overcast days are fine, however if it's raining heavily and miserable, we'll reschedule. If there's a lock-down, we'll also reschedule. If you are unwell, please let me know as soon as possible.

What should we wear & what's in your Client Wardrobe?

It's essential that you feel comfortable and beautiful. If you decide to dress yourself or when choosing partners/kids outfits, I recommend selecting neutral, earthy tones (ie cream, olive, rust) in fabrics that have texture and are flowy. Avoid combining clashing colours, busy prints and logos.

Once you confirm your booking, I'll send through my Client Wardrobe Look Book so you can decide which outfits you want to borrow. Items include bump-friendly designer dresses, kimonos, bralette sets and blouses for sizes S-L.

How do we book & what are the next steps?

Once you've decided you want to book a session, send me a message with your booking request including your full name and contact phone number and I will respond to you within 24 hours. Once we've decided on a date, I will send you a brief Questionnaire to help me plan the perfect session for you, along with a Photography Agreement, Invoice for the $50 deposit plus Session Information and my Client Wardrobe Look Book.

How do we choose a location & what places do you recommend?

Once you've completed the Questionnaire, we'll work together to design your ideal shoot. I will send you a list of locations that suits your taste, and your preferred session time (sunrise/sunset). Most of the locations I recommend are located within the Northern Beaches or Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, however I am always happy to travel and explore new places. The types of locations I will suggest include idyllic beaches, dramatic cliffs, unique landscapes, tall wispy grass fields, harbour views and natural bush land.

Birth Photography Questions

How do conduct a birth session?

As an experienced natural-light birth photographer, I am highly-skilled at capturing high quality images in dark environments, which preserves your ideal birth ambiance.

I am quiet and discreet, so you’ll barely notice I’m there. There's no directing, no posing or set-ups, just artful, real documentation, capturing the rawest of feelings. Being a mother of two, I bring a patient, warm and nurturing energy, and always fully respect the sanctity of your birth space.

You'll receive a huge variety of photos, focusing on all the details, events and emotions of your birth. Key moments eternalised include your ecstatic "I did it" moment, meeting your baby for the very first time and giving them their first breastfeed.

Will you share my photos on social media?

I will always seek your approval prior to posting any recognisable images of you on social media. Once you receive your gallery, you will be able to mark certain images 'private' or 'loved' so I know which shots you're happy to share.

When will we receive our photos?

Within 24 hours of your birth, I send 5-10 edited sneak-peeks to use as a birth announcement. Your edited high-res gallery of 100+ images will be sent to you within 10 business days.

What does 'on-call' mean?

I am available for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from 38 weeks until your baby is born. So, if your waters break at 2.03am, I will answer your call and immediately drive straight to your place of birth to begin documenting your story.

What if I want to birth in the dark?

I use two professional full-frame cameras with several lenses that handle low-light extremely well. I usually only ever rely on ambient light within the room (candle-light & twinkle-lights), however bounce a flash in extremely dark environments (only if agreed upon first).

What if I don't want certain things captured?

Everyone is different. I always tailor my approach dependent on what you feel comfortable with. Don't want photos to include nudity or baby crowning? No problems, I won't shoot it.

What if you miss the birth?

So far, I have never missed a birth. Our communication agreement keeps me fully informed as to your labour and progress, so I will ensure to be there in time. In the very rare case that your baby decides to come very quickly and I arrive once they're born, I will capture several hours of their 'firsts' and your time as a new family. I will also offer a Newborn shoot when baby is a little older.

How many births do you accept each month?

As birth occurs at unpredictable times, I accept a maximum of only 2 birth bookings within a 4 week period, ensuring due dates are adequately spaced to avoid the risk of double-ups. I also use a reliable back-up photographer in rare cases.

How far in advance should I book?

Ideally, as soon as you discover you're pregnant and set your heart on having your birth documented. As I only accept 2 birth sessions each month, It's best to get in touch as soon as possible.
